01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The ichiju-hassai lunch brings eight small dishes to the table, making it a good choice for anyone who likes to sample a range of flavours. One diner recalled the corn tofu and a dish combining green papaya with pineapple as particular highlights. On another visit, a diner swapped white rice for mixed-grain rice cooked with corn, enjoying its sweetness and texture alongside the other dishes.

For a more substantial meal than the small-dish lunch, there is also a special lunch available on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Reservations are recommended for lunch.

In the evening, the menu invites diners to put together a meal from small plates of vegetable side dishes and fish. The Nanoan selection set combines sashimi with farm-fresh vegetable sides and comes in small, medium and large sizes, so it can be scaled to suit the group and appetite. Among the individual dishes, vegetable tempura and aubergine gratin with sea urchin and tomato miso put vegetables centre stage. Other choices include sea bream steamed with plum and chilli, and black wagyu beef tendon with daikon, allowing diners to keep the meal vegetable-led or add fish and meat.

The sake list features a broad range of labels from small breweries. Descriptions can help guide a pairing: Riha ku is presented as crisp and dry, Rakunose as rich in umami, and Nabeshima as fruity, with an elegant sweetness.

For a gathering, there is also a seasonal course combining seasonal vegetables, a small hot pot of seasonal fish and wagyu steak. Finish with Anno sweet potato and vanilla ice cream drizzled with kuromitsu syrup, or yuzu sorbet.
